First band added to the Metal Archives!

Amorphis is derived from 'amorphous' which means without determinate form, shapeless.

Tomi Koivusaari was the band's original vocalist as well as rhythm guitarist. When Pasi Koskinen joined in 1995 (as the band were moving away from death metal) they initially split clean and harsh vocal duties before Koivusaari eventually stopped singing altogether.

In 2002 the band was asked for a contribution to the soundtrack for the movie Menolippu Mombasaan. The commissioned piece was a cover version of a 1976 Finnish pop hit, "Kuusamo", which was given the full Amorphis treatment and remains the band's only song in their native language to this day: Kuusamo (Danny Winn cover) (05:57)

- Vocals on Black Sun Aeon's "Darkness Walks Beside Me" album in 2009.

Esa Holopainen:
- Contributed with one song, "Sauna Blast" (04:42) on the Finnish Guitar Heroes album in 2007.

Tomi Joutsen:
- Vocals on Waltari's "Release Date" album, on the song "Spokebone".
- Vocals on {\link Joensuu}'s "Carrion" album.

Niclas Etelävuori:
- Bass on Moonspell's "The Antidote" album in 2003.
- Bass on Moonspell's "Night Eternal" album in 2008.
